Employment & Training Program

The Florida Governor’s Council on Indian Affairs, Inc. is a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization, which operates the Employment and Training Program as a Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Native American grantee. We are responsible for the allocation and distribution of this funding to economically disadvantaged, underemployed, or unemployed American Indians, Native Alaskans and Native Hawaiians who are seeking employment and training assistance.

It is our mission to provide services and activities that result in each customer realizing their full economic and employment potential. We utilize accredited public and private educational institutions in Florida and Georgia to prepare our customers for successful participation in today’s competitive labor market. We work to assure that they receive a quality training experience in a career area that provides a large number of annual openings and high wages.

This mission is accomplished by targeting the following goals and objectives

Increased Employment
Increased Educational Skills
Increased Occupational Skills
Increased Computer Skills
Increased High School Completion
Decreased Welfare Dependency

We are committed to training each of our customers for a career that not only promises high wages and job security, but also maximizes the use of each individual’s interest and aptitudes. We have found that sponsoring our customers at their local accredited universities, colleges, technical schools and apprenticeship programs is the fastest and most cost effective way to achieve the highest employability success rates.

The Employment and Training Program presently provides adult education and classroom training assistance to participating customers. Individuals seeking Adult Basic Education, GED preparation, and Certificate, Diploma, or Associates degrees will receive funding towards the cost of their tuition and textbooks, thus enabling them to attend school on a full time basis. Childcare supplements, computer literacy training and technical support are also provisions of the Employment and Training Program.
